Thank you, Pacific Gas & Electric Company!

Your 2023 Better Together Giving Program Grant of $4000 to our Ting Sonoma Chinese Legacy Project will move us forward in our quest to honor the Chinese laborers who, in the 1800’s, helped to build and create our now world-famous wine production industry.

Our goals:

  •    Honor the untold story of the contributions of Chinese workers to the development of the California wine industry.

  •    Remember past injustices against Chinese people (including the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act and the 1886 Chinese Boycott) to ensure history does not repeat itself.

  •    Shape the future through education and community engagement to counter the rise of anti-Asian sentiment.

The Ting Sonoma Chinese Legacy Project is coordinated by the Sonoma–Penglai Committee as part of Sonoma Sister Cities Association (SSCA), a 501(c)(3) organization.

Pacific Gas & Electric’s charitable giving provides grants in four focus areas: Economic & Community Vitality, Education, Emergency Preparedness & Safety and Environment. They also support employee engagement by making matching gifts towards donations made by our PG&E coworkers.

PG&E and The PG&E Corporation Foundation (PG&E Foundation) provided $25 million in charitable contributions in 2022, along with PG&E coworkers who contributed another $6 million, all benefitting more than 5,000 nonprofits and schools.

Last year, charitable contributions from PG&E and the PG&E Foundation increased by $2 million, up from $23 million in 2021. PG&E volunteer hours also rose, by 33%, with coworkers giving nearly 30,000 hours of their time in local communities PG&E serves, demonstrating that coworkers were eager to return to in-person volunteering after COVID-19 restrictions were lifted.
