On the Sonoma City Council agenda for the Oct. 21, 2019 meeting is council consideration of whether to allow donor-recognition bricks to be located outside the planned Ting memorial at Depot Park, a project sponsored by the Sonoma-Penglai Sister City Committee to honor the legacy of 19th century Chinese laborers. Sister City members had fundraised for the project by selling so-called donor bricks โ€“ inscribed with donor names โ€“ to be placed on a walkway toward the Ting, a gazebo-like structure. In August, city council members initially opposed the use of the bricks on city property. The council formed a two-member subcommittee of Madolyn Agrimonti and Logan Harvey to work with Sister City members to work out an alternate plan. On Monday, the subcommittee is expected to recommend allowing the bricks, but that instead of a pathway leading to the Ting, the pavers encircle the outside of the pavilion.
