It’s understandable that most people who live in Sonoma don’t even see the current signs that announce that the City of Sonoma has numerous Sister City relationships around the globe. The current signs are relics that have faded in color and fallen into disrepair. They are also highly inaccurate, thanks to the City of Sonoma’s enthusiastic support of Sister Cities International and the partnership opportunities that organization promotes.
The current signs do not include all of the City of Sonoma’s Sister Cities: Aswan (Egypt), Chambolle-Musigny (France), Greve (Italy), Penglai (China), Kaniv (Ukraine), Patzcuaro (Mexico) and Tokaj (Hungary). The new signs will correct this and display all of the Sister City relationships with great pride.
The design of the new signs is due to the meticulous, coordinated efforts between the City of Sonoma and the Sonoma Sister Cities Association, and the timing is perfect because the new, updated design matches the local street sign design replacement which features the curved arch with a bear and stars.
Look for the new signs to be installed on Thursday, March 17 at 10:00am, replacing the signs at the existing locations, one on Highway 12 next to Maxwell Village, and the other on Lower Broadway at Traintown.
This project was funded by the City of Sonoma; the design work was donated by Robert Sanders of Robert Sanders & Co.
