Dear Friends,

Thank you for making our Kaniv fundraiser at the El Verano Inn such a huge success. Because of you we raised over $15,000 which will be immediately wired to Kaniv for winter essentials. Yesterday the need became even greater as you will read below. Kaniv received a direct hit on its Hydroelectric plant. Here is the letter we received from Anatoliy Leontyev, president of the Kaniv Friendship Association who many of you met this past August.

“I’m always surprised when I think about how history books are composed. One page can fit both 100 and 500 years. And the participants in the events have to live it day after day. We live in a very dramatic, interesting time, which is full of events to the limit. Yesterday at 8.30 in the morning a Russian missile hit one of the facilities of our hydroelectric power station in Kaniv. There was a very loud explosion and half the sky was covered with smoke. Electricity, water and internet were cut off for the whole day. Today there is electricity, but there is no water yet. This incident happened all over Ukraine. 44 out of more than 50 cruise missiles were shot down. This is the first hit on the object in Kaniv. So far, God has been merciful… We cannot be brought to our knees by this.

All the very best to you! A huge hello to everyone.

Cordially, Anatoliy”
