Sonoma Valley High School senior James McKale welcomed nearly 40 guests to a special midday screening of the HBO documentary In Tahrir Square this past Sunday at the Sebastiani Theatre.  James produced this event as a fund raiser for his senior project, which is to construct a new Aswan Center for Education (ACE) in the community of Gharb, in Aswan, Egypt.

The focus of ACE will be teaching women in the community a variety of life and economic skills involving the making and marketing of crafts, home health and economics, and first aid training. James partnered with the Sonoma-Aswan Committee of the Sonoma Sister Cities Association, the local affiliate of Sister Cities International whose mission is to promote world peace through citizen action.

In Tahrir Square compiles first-hand footage and interviews with some of the many Egyptian protestors who remained at the square in Cairo to pressure then-President Hosni Mubarak to step down after ruling for 30 years under a “state of emergency” and with an administration widely believed to completely corrupt.
