SONOMA, CA

Members of the Sonoma-Penglai Sister City Committee will be traveling to Beijing, Ningxia, and Penglai, China later this month with City Council Member Gary Edwards and his wife, Ruth. The trip, which runs from September 12 through 21, will include a meeting with U.S. Embassy personnel in Beijing, visits to China’s main wine-producing regions, discussions with Penglai officials about creating more tourism opportunities between Penglai and Sonoma, and a stop at Yisan Elementary School to present the next package of Pen Pal letters and gifts from the fourth grade students at El Verano Elementary School in Sonoma.
Traveling with the Edwards are Sonoma Sister City Association (SSCA) Chief of Protocol Sherri Ferris, SSCA Vice President Hans Steuck, committee members Wayne and Cecelia Schake, Dr. Keyvan Tabari, and Mrs. Patricia Carter.
The Sonoma-Penglai Sister City Committee was formed in 2013 when the cities of Sonoma and Penglai entered into a formal sister city relationship recognized by Sister Cities International, whose goal is to foster citizen to citizen diplomacy between city governments.
