A wonderful Chinese Lunar New Year Celebration was held at the Jacuzzi Family Vineyards on January 29, 2017, presented by the Sonoma-Penglai Sister City Committee. We were honored by the attendance of the Chinese Consul General to San Francisco, Luo Linquan and Rachel Hundley, Mayor of Sonoma. Other notable attendees included Gary Edwards, Sonoma Mayor Pro Tem as well as hosts Nancy and Fred Cline of Cline Family Cellars and Jacuzzi Family Vineyards. Guests enjoyed cultural entertainment supplied by the Redwood Empire Chinese Association (RECA) and in attendance was RECA President Nancy Wang and her husband Joe Wang. Other entertainment included the beautiful voice of Morgan Harrington, known also as the Red Soprano. A delicious Chinese dinner was supplied by Chef Bruce Riezenman and his Park Avenue Catering Company. A silent and a live auction benefited the Wine Country Chinese Legacy Project of the Sonoma-Penglai Committee, ably chaired by Peggy Rubens, which will honor the Chinese workers in the 19th century who helped to build the vineyards, caves and wineries that led to this area becoming a world class wine making region. A pavilion (‘ting’ in Mandarin) will be built in Depot Park in Sonoma to be a permanent memory honoring those Chinese workers.
