Welcome –
Greve in Chianti is a town in the province of Florence in Tuscany, Italy. It is located about 19 miles south of Florence to just north of Siena. Like Sonoma, Greve in Chianti has a main piazza and is surrounded by a variety of agricultural activities, most notably the growing of grapes that go into Chianti and “Super Tuscan” wines. Olive oil production is another staple of the local economy.
Since creating our sister city partnership in 1983*, numerous adults and students have traveled to Greve in Chianti and cultivated cultural, educational and social relationships. The committee is expanding and looking for active members to hold events and plan a visit to Italy. If you are interested in serving on the committee, please let us know. An informational meeting is being planned for March 2016.
The Sonoma-Greve Sister City Committee operates under the auspices of the Sonoma Sister Cities Association (SSCA), a registered nonprofit organization (SSCA federal tax identification #68-0108056).
The partnership of a city in the Tuscan region of Italy with the City of Sonoma is a natural. The official sister city relationship was established in 1983 after years of communication between the cities.
Help us preserve and invigorate this relationship in the spirit of the Sister Cities International (SCI) mission.
