Penglai boasts beautiful scenery and a long history. It is famous for coastal tourism, ancient historical sites, and large quantities of cultural relics. A national-level scenic spot, Penglai receives nearly three million tourists from all over the world each year.
Of all the cities in China, it is particularly appropriate that Penglai should be Sonoma’s sister city because it is China’s premier region for grape growing and winemaking. There are forty five wineries in Penglai, with an annual grape harvest of 80,000 tons/year, ranking first in China and accounting for 20% of total Chinese wine production.
Penglai has attached great economic importance to tourism, its harbor, and the grape and wine industry. The people of Penglai, well known for their warm hospitality, and their civic leaders will go all-out to develop opportunities with their foreign friends.
The Sonoma-Penglai Sister City Committee operates under the auspices of the Sonoma Sister Cities Association (SSCA), a registered nonprofit organization (SSCA federal tax identification #68-0108056).
